Summary of project results

The project resulted from the need to boost the staff capacity of Balkans Wildlife Society (BWS) and thus achieve sustainability of the organization’s activity. It was also necessary to evaluate the current development and status of BWS, the environment in which the organization exists and operates and its vision for future development. The organization had its two branches registered under the project in the village of Vlahi, Kresna Municipality, and in the town of Dragoman. Three midterm business plans were drafted, one for the headquarters and one per each branch. The following 3 campaigns were held: - to raise funds for the renovation of the wooden path in Dragoman marsh; - to raise funds to renovate the Education Centre for Big Predators in the village of Vlahi; - to raise awareness about the issues facing Vitosha, Rila and Pirin Mountains. A group of volunteers was formed which boosted the human resource capacity of the organization and helped carry out a number of events. Most members of BWS got actively involved in the project. Thus the organization could have a common vision for its development. The project proved that the regular meetings of BWS’ active members could result in stability, improve the current work and help with new initiatives. The project laid the foundation for better financial and organizational stability. In addition, the organization is ever more recognized by the public and its causes reach more people.
