Summary of project results

The project addressed common instances of aggression, violence and ethnic discrimination among young people in the town of Kyustendil. It helped the students involved from the schools in the town of Kyustendil to develop their skills for communication, sharing and making adequate decisions in challenging circumstances and improve their skills for debates on important social issues. Important challenges facing the young were addressed such as high aggression rate, incidents of violence, ethnic discrimination and unmotivated school absence. As a result of the project activities a leaders’ group was set up made up of 20 students from three secondary schools in Kyustendil, who acquired skills for communication and work in a multicultural environment. A collection of theatre scenes on the topic of Ethnic Youth Conflicts was prepared and staged. The project helped the students change and make good use of their leisure time as well as reconsider their value system and behaviour. The acquired knowledge and skills, the friendships made and the acquired mechanisms of communication, self-expression and self-recognition are the most important project outcomes. 30 students, 7 of them Roma, were actively involved at all project stages.
