Description

The project addresses the challenges faced by the unemployed/poor people in the cities of Levski, Pleven, Lovech and the village of Malchika. The project aims at creating a self-help group to overcome the challenges through applied arts. First, 7 trainers will be trained to use applied art techniques. Second, 76 young people aged 15-29 and unemployed women from the 3 cities and the village will be selected as participants. Third, the participants will undergo 2-month practical training to learn the quilling, decoupage and patchwork techniques. Next, about 1140 artifacts created by the participants will be sold at 1-week exhibitions/markets in the cities. The money raised will go to a fund ensuring the sustainability of the project. Finally, the participants will undergo entrepreneurship training. The project will benefit not only the participants but also the local community in general. The project partners will be actively involved in disseminating the outcomes of the project.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the challenges faced by the unemployed/poor people in the cities of Levski, Pleven, Lovech and the village of Malchika and helped create preconditions to overcome economic hardships by means of developing skills in applied arts, i.e. decoration with the decoupage technique with paper and tissue paper, as well as development of entrepreneurial skills to start up own business. The project stimulated the participants from the target groups to develop their creative and innovative thinking to use the acquired knowledge, skills and talents. All the participants took advantage of the opportunities for discussion, improving the dialogue and bringing together generations in a spirit of solidarity and self-help. 9 teachers and 76 representatives of the target groups were trained in various applied arts. 4 exhibitions were organized with 1346 artefacts created under the project. Enterpreneurship training of 4 groups were carried out in the four places of the village of Malchika and the cities of Levski, Pleven and Lovech. The project activities helped the people from the target groups look for new jobs, employment and place in the society, capable of interaction and teamwork in problem-solving. Many of the project participants continue to practice the acquired skills and develop various artefacts at home, selling their products with the help of the social networks. The pupils continue to disseminate their knowledge by teaching their peers and friends to create artefacts. 43 young people below the age of 29 and 33 unemployed women the village of Malchika and the cities of Levski, Pleven and Lovech took part in the project. The project partners were the Association of School Principals of Independent School Hostels in Bulgaria, city of Lovech, and Probuda 1928 Community Centre from the village of Malchika, Levski Municipality.
