Description

The project addresses the issue of passive behavior and underdeveloped social culture of young people. The project aims at helping young people form their civil position and learn fundamental values, human rights and freedoms through curricular and extra-curricular activities. First, the applicant’s school premises will be pronounced to be a sovereign territory. Second, students will learn about parliamentary and presidential republics and will hold a referendum. Third, the territory of the republic will be divided into 28 municipalities in 4 districts. Next, a constitution will be drafted and national and European elections will be held. Finally, students will prepare and take part in “all-against-all” competition. The winners will be taken for a study visit to the Bulgarian National Assembly. The project will benefit about 700 students aged 14-18 of Hristo Botev Secondary School in the town of Kardjali, their teachers, parents and the local community in general.

Summary of project results

The project addressed protection of the rights of children in Yambol District as they are still the most vulnerable group. The rights of children, the Roma children, in particular, are often violated and the public is not aware of it for the most part. The project aimed at promoting democratic values, including protection of human rights, which was achieved through the registration, monitoring and reporting of specific violations of children’s rights in Yambol District. The project outcomes and the change achieved among the target groups speak for themselves. The civil potential in Yambol District was stimulated via the training of 35 participants to support children at risk. 7 local NGOs and 4 media raised their competence with regard to children’s rights. In addition, 6-month civil monitoring was carried out and a report on children’s rights was issued that can be used by many organizations and human rights activists.
