Description

The project addresses the need for power generation from renewable energy sources, wind in particular. The project aims at evaluating the potential for power generation from small wind turbines and the social and economic inequalities in several municipalities and proposing a strategy to bridge the gap through cheap wind power. First, an analysis of the wind potential will be carried out in 10 municipalities and 3 of them will be selected. Second, 6 awareness-raising seminars on sustainable urban development will be held. Third, social inequalities in the 3 targeted municipalities will be studied. Fourth, the capability of the municipal infrastructure for electricity transmission will be studied. Finally, a guide on investments in small wind turbines will be developed. The project will benefit municipalities by enhancing their capacity to invest in small wind turbines and thus reduce their costs for municipal buildings and provide cheap electricity to disadvantaged families.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the need for power generation from renewable energy sources, wind in particular and the organization promoted a new system for utilization of alternative energy generated from small wind turbines. This system ensures relative independence of its users; it in itself represents a policy fostered by the Forum for balanced development and sustainable use of natural resources. The project raised awareness of small settlements of a new system for resource independence of communities benefiting from their location and the project’s support to creating conditions for sustainable urban development in those communities. The project is valued mainly for two reasons: 1. Raised awareness of small settlements of a new system for resource independence of communities benefiting from their location and the project’s support to creating conditions for sustainable urban development in those communities, and 2. The preparation of a comprehensive report for the wind potential is beyond the powers of small communities, whereas they are the ones whom it can really help. Decision makers were the main target, because they are those who determine the future development of the area where the project’s activities took place. Thanks to the results of the project the municipalities have acquired knowledge on the new policies for sustainable urban development and use of natural resources. Thus they have adopted a new system for resource independence resting on the advantages of the territory they inhabit. Additional target groups of the project were Roma, disadvantaged people, local communities and others. They were included in the trainings and seminars held under the project. Their needs were taken into account, and the proposal for the utilization of the available wind potential was fully consistent with the needs and possibilities of the additional target groups. Through the results of this project, the main target group will be able to seek funding opportunities to build a social enterprise, which can benefit all additional target groups of the project.
