Description

The project addresses the failure of existing forms of civic participation in decision-making to involve the public because they are inefficient, underdeveloped, mistrusted or unknown to the people. The project aims at raising public awareness and promoting active citizenship by using the platform of the well-known media Mediapool.bg. The project activities target decision-makers, NGOs, the media, the business and the general public. The activities include monitoring and reporting on the work of the existing forms of civic participation in decision-making, reporting on topical issues and the initiatives of the NGO sector, publishing the opinions of all involved stakeholders and carrying out opinion surveys to obtain feedback from the audience. The project will benefit not only the targeted stakeholders but also the public in general by raising its awareness and ensuring broader participation in public debates.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the failure of existing forms of civic participation in decision-making to involve the public because they are inefficient, underdeveloped, mistrusted or unknown to the people. The project raised public awareness and promoted active citizenship by using the platform of the well-known media Mediapool.bg. It helped improve the competence of 30 young people aged 15-29 for active participation in public life and involvement in the already existing structures for youth participation in the municipal life and local decision-making. The direct results are as follows: 19 young people (63%) from the main target group joined the Youth Forum for partnership with the local authorities, 10 members of the target group joined NGOs and 10 youth attended a session of the municipal council. The project outputs are 2 proposals for changes to some aspects of the local policy made by the project participants to the local authorities. The young people themselves from the main target group spread the project teaching other young people including in the 3 small municipalities of Provadia, Valchi Dol and Suvorovo. The information campaign reached 402 young people. A team of young trainers was set up to train and inform other young people and boost their civil activity.
