Description

The purpose of the Project is to establish a unified microbiology laboratory-based early warning infection control system in seven regional Latvian hospitals, with the overall objective of decreasing morbidity and mortality caused by nosocomial infections. Reference is made to the application, dated 2 March 2007, and to any subsequent correspondence with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Introduced unified laboratory methods and software in partner hospitals; - Analysed nosocomial infections data from the introduced surveillance data base; - Trained infection control personnel; - Standardised epidemiological surveillance system including an early warning system; - Disseminated research findings and elaborated evidence based guidelines for infection control; - Project management (including publicity). The Project Promoter is the Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital. The project will be implemented in a partnership with the Clinical University Hospital "Gailezers", Liepaja City Central Hospital, Daugavpils Regional Hospital, Valmiera Hospital, Ventspils Hospital and the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology (DIDE) of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Project Promoter provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project cost.
