Description

The purpose of the Project is to restore the building structure of Biržai castle and to prepare the site for tourism and cultural activities, with the overall objective of transforming Biržai castle into an attractive site for tourists, contributing to social-economic development and preservation of cultural heritage in the region. Reference is made to the application dated 2 August 2007 and to any subsequent correspondance with the Focal Point. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - Reinforcement and repair of the walls and foundation of the Birzai castle - Update of documentation and design plans; - Reinforcement and repair of the walls of Biržai castle palace; - Renovation works (windows, doors, floors etc); - Preparation of a feasibility study and action plan for future use of the premises; - Public procurement; - Project management and publicity; - Project audit. The Project Promoter is the Administration of Biržai Region Municipality. The Focal Point shall ensure that the Lithuanian Government provides at least 15 percent of the estimated eligible Project costs.
