Description

The purpose of the Project is to implement works to a series of cultural heritage sites along the Roman road 'Via de la Plata', with the overall objective of preserving the cultural heritage along the 'Via de la Plata', and offering new tourism services and facilities along the route. Reference is made to the application dated 8 November 2006, and to correspondence with the Focal Point dated 12 February 2007, 17 September 2007 and 31 October 2007. The completed Project shall include the following activities and results: - operations along the Roman road, including excavation works, signposting, etc.; - the purchase of the archeological site of the Dolmen (Standing Stone) of Lácara; - excavation, investigation, and signposting of four archaeological sites: Roman City of Cáparra, Dolmen of Lácara, Tholos of Huerta Montero, and works in the Roman town of Regina including the Alcazaba de Regina; - the purchase, renovation/rehabilitation, and equipping of two buildings into hostels, a tobacco shed in the village of San Gil and a traditional house in the area of Alcuescar; - repair of four bridges along the Roman Road: the bridge over the river Albarregas in Mérida, the bridge over the river Guadiana in Mérida, the Roman bridge of Alconétar, and the Romanillo bridge; - development of an exhibition centre for industrial heritage; and - publicity activities. The Project Promoter is the Ministry of Culture of the Regional Government of Extremadura.
