Description

This project will build a centre for women and children's safe housing in Trenčín self-governing region, where are no such capacities for the victims of gender violence. Women will be given not only emergency accommodation, but also other specialized services for them and their children. The project will create a safe home for women in Trenčín, 7 job positions and 53 beds. We expect to help at least 70 women a year and around 200 telephone interventions. The plan is to print a minimum of 20,000 information materials for victims and the general public and carry out 10 information meetings for the public. The shelter is intended for women - victims of domestic violence and their children. The target group is also disadvantaged people in terms of disability, minorities, and people with restricted access to the labour market, for whom it is difficult to tackle critical situations such as domestic violence. Another target group is the general public, who will be informed about the issue of domestic violence, gender-based violence, forms of assistance, and the need for a shelter. For the purpose of this project we have entered into a partnership with advisory and consulting company from Norway which has a portfolio of partners, it's clients and organizations whose activities are specifically focused on the activities similar to ours. The companies specialize in helping victims of violence and abuse (physical and psychological, marital and sexual), operate daily and crisis centers for the victims of violence.

Summary of project results

The main objective of the project was to build a new female security house that would meet minimum European standards with elements of the standard for safe housing with children, partner victims, gender-based violence, taking into account the requirements of barrier-free solution of the building, providing complex services based on the principle of strengthening rights of victims. 21 separate accommodation units were built for a maximum capacity of 53 people. In addition to the main achievement of building the Women's House in Trenčín, we have provided outpatient counseling for women in difficult life situations, organized training for experts working in a safe house, and organized an introductory and final project conference to highlight the need to address this issue, as well as the search for partners to make the state and local governments more efficient. After the completion of the project during the project's sustainability period, as well as launching the information campaign (leaflets, functionality of the website) and after further negotiations with partners from the state and public administration, we expect an increase in the number of clients accommodated.

Summary of bilateral results

The partnership with the Norwegian partner was based on the exchange of experience in setting up rules in the Women's Home and consulted on possible partnerships with specific organizations that also deal with the topic of helping women experiencing domestic violence and other violence, and in the future we want to travel and learn from their experiences. Communication was usually by phone. The partner's outcomes will then be a joint negotiation of familiarization with methods in Norway and the acquisition of new activities leading to the improvement of the services provided to clients of the Women's Home.
