Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to promote cross border cooperation and “people to people and institutions to institutions” activities. Our main effort was to preserve and regenerate the natural, cultural and historical specifics and traditions of Slovak border – the Ukrainian region and their usage in tourism, getting to know traditional crafts, cuisine and elements of folk architecture. The result of the project – The House of Traditional Kitchen and Crafts – was created to present local gastronomic and craft traditions from the region. We will present craft from woods, clay, wreaths, carpets, canvas, etc. through open and publicly accessible activities, as well as cooking local specialties not only for local residents and tourists but also as educational programs for schools or senior homes. In addition to main output, there were also other important activities carried out such as: Processing the baseline analysis of the border in terms of gastronomic tourism and it’s promotion to general public;printed publication that includes the most important information about the mutual history and traditional elements of mutual life; recipe book in multilingual versions, which contains recipes, color photographs of food and raw ingredients, typical vocabulary, description of wine production by regions and other specifics; multilingual mobile application for smartphones, which allows user to have his favorite recipes any time. The application is free of charge and serves to increase awareness particularly among young people; a short documentary movie that will be used to promote project results and for the basis for further building of partnership as well as Festival of regional traditions. The results and outcomes of the project are intended to be used not only by organizations involved in the implementation of the project but also to all inhabitants living in the border areas. A positive contribution is expected to minorities of Ukrainian citizens in Slovakia and vice versa – Slovak citizens in Ukraine. They have the opportunity to present their culture and inspire to feel at home in a foreign country. It will create the potential of understanding and accepting them as minority at the same time. Tourist attraction will create an opportunity to increase the visits of the region. Our estimate is to gradually reach 20%. Therefore our effort will be gaining additional partners and financial opportunities to extend the offer of The House of Traditional Kitchen and Crafts during the project sustainability.
