Description

The Prešov Self -Governing Region and the Western part of Ukraine are known for a wide range of cultural monuments, especially for the wooden churches. These sacral architectural constructions are typical to the cultural traditions of the region; significantly represent the local community of Rusyns. Even though many of the mentioned monuments have already been renovated, some of them are still in bad technical conditions. Another problem is a lack of relevant information resources and the presentation of the wooden churches as such. The Project promoter has been cooperating for many years on the international level to fullfil the strategy of the Presentation and Conservation of the Sacral Architecture in this region. Objective of the project is to save and to promote the common cultural heritage of that cross-border region. The project wishes to promote the best that we have and that connect both sides of the Slovak- Ukrainian border. 1. Conservation of the cultural monuments and their promotion in the region (output:small repairs of 4 wooden churches on the Slovak territory). 2. Improvement of the provided information on the historical and spiritual heritage of the region (outputs: Installation of another 20 miniatures-10 models from Slovakia and 10 models from Ukraine; publication about the Open- Air Museum;workshop). 3. Strengthening of the international contacts between Slovak- Ukrainian communities with reference to their common roots (output: documentary film about Bishop Gojdič´s life). Target groups: citizens of Rusyn nationality, tourist, visitors, ...

The Norwegian Financial Mechanism is one of the few sources that provides funding for the rescue and presentation of cultural monuments. The project was irreplaceable for the realization of the project objectives as well as for subsequent indirect impacts. The project has succeeded in achieving all the set goals that other sources could not achieve. A partnership network was created, so that 10 project partners were involved in the project implementation, in the sense of the Partnership Agreement. In the field of initiatives for better cooperation of institutions, the introductory conference of the project in Uzhgorod took place on 04.12.2015 and the final conference of the project in Prešov, 18.08.2016, where representatives of educational institutions, employees and other institutions involved in the preservation and presentation of cultural and spiritual heritage .
