Description

The overall objective of the project “The Mosaic of Prevention in Posavje region” is the reduction or prevention of lifestyle related diseases. The project deals with the consequences of risky and harmful use of alcohol, which stands above the national average in the Posavje region. The project will respond to the needs of various target groups, namely: children, adolescents and their parents. It will establish a comprehensive regional prevention programme with the aim of raising awareness and competence levels to cope with the existential and relational challenges of users. The project also targets experts of the Posavje region through the creation of a network with the aim of efficiently coping with the problems in the region and provide professional education within the network. Young people who have already developed risk behaviours are targeted by the pilot implementation of street work, including information, help with self-assessment, and integration of young people in the outskirts. Finally, involuntary user are targeted by the establishment of a model of effective counselling and providing training for experts working with this target group.

Summary of project results

The project The Mosaic of Prevention (PmP) deals with the consequences of risky or harmful use of alcohol which stands at above-average rates in the Posavje region. Several organizations from the region came together to address the situation and search for solutions by combining their experience and know-how, while using their status to spread knowledge and raise awareness. The project pursued two objectives: to prevent or reduce diseases related to unhealthy lifestyle, mainly by implementing an integrated prevention programme, and to build the capacity of professionals providing guidance and education activities for vulnerable groups in the field of prevention. Several regional activity programmes targeting different age groups were designed under the project. 45 prevention days in primary and secondary schools were carried out to include 1,287 pupils and more than 15 young volunteers. Alcohol prevention interventions in the workplace involving 890 parents, and the pilot project of street work and outreach with 59 interventions throughout the region were implemented as well. The experience and lessons learned under the project have been collected and published in a manual. The project facilitated the establishment of a regional network of organizations consisting of more than 29 organizations with professionals providing services in the field of prevention. The counselling office in Krško where therapists provided 811 hours of advice and counselling on alcohol use and abuse represents the main added value of the project. Counselling services were also offered to users that were referred to the therapy by the established network of organizations. The general focus of the project has been on raising public awareness about the consequences of risky or harmful use of alcohol while promoting Norway Grants.
