Description

The project is needed to expand the scope, both domain-wise and geographically, of Alexandu Ioan Cuza University of Iasi academic international cooperation mainly by attracting EEA students & staff to our institution. The objective is to strengthen the cooperation between Romanian and EEA institutions mainly through the promotion of academic excellence and institutional improvement, reduction of mobility obstacles, good practice exchange and internationalization at home. The project will increase the quantity and quality of the EEA mobility exchanges which are later expected to grow into cooperation projects of research of common interest. The exchanges will provide students with specialized knowledge not only in their study fields, but also on the two cultures, meaningful experience and linguistic proficiency which will be used as assets in their future jobs. Our students & staff, EEA students & staff, as well as our university & EEA partner institutions as a whole. Donor partners are HEIs and companies in EEA, playing the role of host institutions for our students and staff. The partnership between EEA institutions and our university is expected to better connect different public and private actors across the European territory.

Summary of project results

Although partnerships between Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi (UAIC) and some EEA HEIs already existed, the project was needed to further expand the scope, both domain-wise and geographically, of UAIC academic international cooperation mainly by attracting EEA students and staff to choose UAIC as their exchange destination. The EEA exchanges provided students with specialized knowledge not only in their fields of study, but also on the cultures/societies of all countries involved, meaningful experience and linguistic proficiency which will be used as assets in their future jobs. The staff exchanges will lead to new curriculum design and teaching/assessment methods, as well as implementation of good practices. The partnership achieved a significant number of exchanges during this project (68 beneficiaries in total: 50 outgoing student mobility for studies and placement, 7 incoming student mobility for placement, 7 outgoing staff teaching mobility and 4 incoming staff mobility) which will hopefully increase in the new EEA programme which will be launched in 2017. A lot of contacts have been established at faculty/ departmental level which will be used in discussing or preparing future projects of cooperation.

Summary of bilateral results

This project was a great opportunity for Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi (UAIC) to extend the collaboration with more HEIs in the EEA and also identify companies for student placement. The exchanges and academic cooperation with some universities in the EEA countries had started long before the beginning of this mobility project. Therefore, the EEA project was a natural integration of the already existing academic relationships which will definitely continue after this project ends (through the Erasmus+ funding). The benefit of this project was not only at individual level for students and staff, but also at institutional level, for UAIC and EEA partner institutions as a whole. The donor partnership could better connect different public and private actors across the EEA and Romanian territory.
