Description

The proposed project will incorporate modern ideas in the area of renewable energy and control theory. Particular attention will be paid to aspects related to energy efficiency and embedded control. The project will help to develop physical and mathematical models and engineering solutions for energy efficiency and constrained optimization problems from control. The expected outcome is education of students in the field of energy and control theory, combined with scientific research on nanoscale devices such as solar cells and constrained optimization and embedded systems. We plan to complement each other’s skills in various areas of energy efficiency and control theory. Both, the donor and partner institutions are expected to benefit from the common projects through joint student projects and joint publications. The project envisages an equal partnership where visits between staff and student exchange programs will facilitate skill transfer and synergies in the work outputs. The project will initiate a collaboration between the three engineering schools institutions which aims at expanding in the future.

Summary of project results

The scope of the envisaged mobility activities is to increase collaboration with and exposure of Universitatea POLITEHNICA din Bucuresti to Scandinavian Research Institutes. Has been strengthened the cooperation between Departments at the student and staff level. For the students has been developed new skills and Educational level improving. The main objective was to achieve constrained optimization in general (and model predictive control) between the Automatic Control and Systems Engineering and Engineering Cybernetics Department of Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universite (Trondheim, Norway). Has been developed cooperation in the field of engineering solutions for energy efficiency and mathematical models between Reykjavik University (Iceland) and Applied Sciences Department of UPB. This grant had begun a future and fruitful collaborations. Universitatea POLITEHNICA din Bucuresti staff involved in this project will develop new European research proposals. For the students have been developed knowledge, skills and competences in structured data’s collection and analysis. For Universitatea POLITEHNICA din Bucuresti got novel information regarding the use of numerical optimization in control. Universitatea POLITEHNICA din Bucuresti staff done discussing at departmental meetings of the mobility concerning teaching outcome, experience gained from discussions with Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet staff.

Summary of bilateral results

Reykjavik University (Iceland) contribute with new skills in industrial wireless sensors, data collection units (Controlant) and in Python and Web APIs Programming for student Robert Biro. At Engineering Cybernetics of Norwegian University of Science and Technology(NTNU) studies about MPC strategy and implement a system with constraints and add perturbation. The main objective was to achieve constrained optimization in general (and model predictive control) between the Automatic Control and Systems Engineering (AIS) and Engineering Cybernetics (ITK) Department of NTNU (Trondheim, Norway). Has been developed cooperation in the field of engineering solutions for energy efficiency and mathematical models between Reykjavik University (Iceland) and Applied Sciences Department of UPB.
