Description

Suceava shortage of classical music events and an institutional framework for the musical education of the general public. The main idea of the project is that Romanticism is the most important artistic, literary and intellectual movement. Through its main activities - conferences, poetry readings, classical music recitals will emphasize the specific elements of this current such as originality, spontaneity and the freedom of expression. The conferences, the poetry readings (from the creation of Eminescu, Shelley, Lenau, Heine, Musset, Lamartine) and the classical music recitals (Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Porumbescu) will reveal the elements characteristic to Romanticism emphasizing on the originality and spontaneity, the freedom of expression and sincere emotion, and also the combination between music with literature promoted by the European Romanticism. The activities included in the projects – conferences, poetry readings, and classical music recitals - emphasize the interdisciplinary approach of Romanticism, because, in organizing these activities, linguists, literary specialists, musicologists, actors and performers will be involved. Furthermore, the activities will highlight and enhance the characteristic concepts, themes, motives and artistic expressions that have appeared in the first half of the nineteenth century in Western Europe and also in Romania in the second half of the same century. The main target group is the academic community in Suceava - student and teachers. The secondary target group is community of citizens from Suceava County. The final target group consists of general public to whom will facilitate access to European culture in a given historical period - the nineteenth century - the period that favored the discovery and affirming the value identity of traditional culture in the development of high art and nations.

Summary of project results

Considering that Suceava County does not have an Opera House, the action/project met the demand for cultural and music-related education of the average citizen of Suceava. Through the performance of classic music on stage and the input of professionals who steered the public’s understanding toward the right conclusions, we have tried to address the above-mentioned issue. The long-term outcomes of our endeavour have to do with the attempt to foster a positive outlook on music, poetry, and their public performance. The audience of Suceava benefited from exposure to the standpoint of the professionals on stage; this paves the way for the future and makes a case for similar enterprises meant to put on the map of Suceava County the culture and the heritage of Europe. The outputs delivered as project results were as follows: two conferences, two music and poetry recitals, six press releases in the local media, 10 posters, 75 flyers, 100 DVDs comprising a selection from the recitals, photographs. Undertaking this project in a culturally-challenged a city as Suceava envisages a deeper understanding of Europe Romanticism as reflected in music and poetry, with an academic as well as non-academic public considered as a target. The two conferences, each followed by a music and poetry recitals which emphasized topics, motifs, artistic manifestation inherent to latter half 19 th-century in Western Europe, contributed to the younger generation's awareness of cultural diversity, of permanence, of an utterly necessary cultural dialogue. The activities which involved the participation of target groups that further popularized the events they were part of, greatly facilitated the access to European culture for a considerable number of people. As for the 100 DVSs with a selection from the recitals, a proof of the activities carried out in the project, these were distributed to the target group, students, teachers, citizens, widespread audience, institutions. They will continue to attract and inform an even greater number of people about the EEA grants and the cultural values promoted by means of the European Romanticism in Contemporary Reflection(s).
