Description

The project idea was generated by the desire to revitalize the old traditional games, make them known to present generations, who, because of the access to modern technologies, are moving away from their authenticity and beauty as part of cultural and national identity. Children's games are important for physical and mental development and have a major role in their civic, moral and artistic education, in stimulating creativity as well as in networking skills within the group. The beneficiaries of this project will rediscover and learn the long forgotten games that today form part of Romania's immaterial cultural tradition. The traditional games are based on beliefs and symbols, they are methods to welcome children into the various stages and experiences of life, and they are made in a playful manner. Examples of games include 'Baba Oarba' (Blind man’s buff); the initiation into death, Arsice (Knucklebones); a gamble, Lupul si oile (Wolf and Sheep); a ritual mythical game, Turca (Tip-cat); a game of dexterity. The target group consists of children aged between 6 and14, teenagers, young volunteers students from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences and adults. More that 400 such persons will participate in the first Festival of Traditional Games "Auras Pacuras" (contests and other activities - fall of 2015) organisated in schools, at the Library in Livada Postei ground or in Titulescu Park.
