Description

The Art Education Program for Roma Children aims to increase the access of Roma children from Sacele (especially Garcini neighborhood), Brasov County to its educational and cultural program in the visual arts area. It trains16 socio-cultural animators who follow a national accredited course (ANC- National Authority for Qualifications), do practical work and are offered mentorship. 16 professionals from education and culture are trained to increase their competences in cultural expression, through accredited ANC course, practical work and mentorship. 400 Roma children from Sacele are involved in 6 visual arts camps and 3 workshops of visual art, during 6 months, with the support of 16 socio-cultural animators and 16 professionals from educational and cultural fields. The project promotes education through art and culture among the larger public(including the Roma minority) as a way of social inclusion and multicultural empowerment. It results in a street exhibition, a site, a short movie and an online brochure, visual arts camps and workshops, development of activities and events with and about the Roma minority.

Summary of project results

The project was needed because there were hardly any educational and cultural programs for children in Săcele area, there were no accredited trainings for professionals working in culture and education. The promoter organized an integrated 6 months visual art program was a great opportunity for the Roma kids in Gârcini/ Săcele, Brașov county, implementing 4 workshops and 6 camps for 408 children. The organisation also got the accreditation for basic cultural competences course, prepared the documentation for socio-cultural animator course and trained 32 youngsters and workers from culture and education, that were also involved as volunteers in working with the Roma children. The instruments generated from the project were an online brochure, a short movie, an exhibition and a website. In order to achieve the planned results, PP produced 4 short camps, 2 residential camps of 6 days, 4 workshops, 408 Roma children that participated to workshops and short camps, 100 Roma children that participated to residential camps, 8 methods of visual arts used, 1 accredited course on competences of cultural expression, 1 in-house course on socio-cultural animation, 10 days of implemented courses, 16 socio-cultural animators, 16 professionals with competences in cultural expression, 14 mentorship sessions, 32 voluntary work contracts, 31 learning plans, 31 activity plans, 2 press conferences, 1 press release, 22 articles, 50 posters, 500 flyers, 2 rollup, 180 tshirts, 1 website, 1 electronic brochure with the results of the project, 1 short movie about the project, 1 street exhibition with over 80 products made by Roma children in visual arts and 4 interactive workshops, 4 management meeting The Roma children participated in an integrated visual arts program for 6 months and, for the first time in their life, in a summer camp, away from their parents. They learnt about visual arts methods and how to use their creativity, but also how to function independent away from their comfort zone, gaining new social skills. The project made them more open to education through art and culture and empower them to show their skills and native artistic talent. The volunteers got some more competences in animation and cultural expression, practical skills through the voluntary work and learnt about working with Roma kids. Participating in formal training and voluntary work got to volunteers recognition and skills to either improve their current work or to get a future jobs.
