Description

The project responds to the needs of UMB students and staff in the area of increasing the proportion of practical classes in the subject “Radiological protection with elements of modern physics” and increasing the quality of diagnostics education, by moving from analog to digital imaging (better quality of X-ray images - more precise diagnostics). The main aim of the project is the adaptation of educational offer at EL course by preparing and implementing a modified subject “Radiological protection...”. Owing to the realization of trainings, UMB staff will gain practical knowledge and skills in the operation of high-tech equipment for quality control of radiological exam.; a prog. of studies and a script for classes will be prepared. Equipment will be bought, thanks to which EL students will be able to independently perform quality control tests in X-ray diagnostics and interventional radiology. Project results will be disseminated during a conference ending the project.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the need to increase the proportion of practical classes in the process of education connected with performing quality control tests in the area of classic X-ray diagnostics and interventional radiology. These needs were met by the implemented changes to study programmes and changing the programme of the subject “Radiological protection with elements of modern physics”, which ensures sustainability of project results. The main aim of the project was to adopt the educational offer of the course in Electroradiology through changes to the study programme and changing the programme of the subject “Radiological protection with elements of modern physics”. This aim was achieved by: 1. Organizing the process of education of the academic staff (trainings) that will conduct classes with Electroradiology students and related subjects at UMB. 2. Introducing changes to the study programme at the 1st and 2nd year course in Electroradiology by creating a comprehensive subject “Radiological protection with elements of modern physics”. 3. Publishing a manuscript for Electroradiology students containing a theoretical part and a set of practical tests. 4. Development of infrastructure of UMB’s Institute of Radiology by purchasing equipment and tools for performing quality control (complying with the Nuclear Law Act). The following results have been achieved in the project: 1. Subject programme: “Radiological protection with elements of modern physics” – 1 programme, available since 01.03.2016. 2. Manuscript for classes in “Radiological protection with elements of modern physics” – 100 copies, available since 01.03.2016. 3. Theoretical and practical training for UMB staff – finished 30.06.2015 4. Theoretical training in the area of radiological protection and quality control in radiology for UMB staff (a total of 16 hours) – finished 30.06.2015 5. Equipment for quality control in radiology – range of purchases after modifications (Annexes no. 2 and 3): acrylic plates and aluminium filters, lead masks and, additionally, the spare funds that were originally appropriated for the purchase of a dosimeter were used to buy: specialist coursebooks for the staff, a human skeleton, a laser printer, lead aprons, and an alpha-type phantom; availability – 30.05.2016. 6. A multiplying conference – 21.04.2016.
