Description

EU regulations continue to evolve, widening the list of priority substances, which are subject to monitoring. It is necessary to modify and expand the content of education to take account of these changes. The aim of the project is the preparation and implementation of a module (course) for increasing the awareness of students and graduates on environmental monitoring using modern analytical techniques and chemometric methods. As part of the project, the first phase will involve the purchase of modern equipment necessary to conduct monitoring. This phase will also develop an in situ training program and prepare teaching materials. The second stage will be carried out via a training and conference. The module takes into account all the issues contained in the minima of the curriculum of chemistry. The result of the project will be the preparation and implementation of the training program, allowing for increased knowledge of environmental monitoring and the integration of theoretical knowledge with practice.

Summary of project results

EU regulations continue to evolve, widening the list of priority substances subject to monitoring. It was necessary to modify and expand the content of education to take account of these changes. The aim of the project was the preparation and implementation of a module (course) for increasing the awareness of students and graduates on environmental monitoring using modern analytical techniques and chemometric methods. Modern equipment necessary to conduct monitoring and an in situ training program was purchased, and teaching materials were developed and prepared. The module took into account all the issues contained in the minima of the curriculum of chemistry. The results of the project were the preparation and implementation of the training program, allowing for increased knowledge of environmental monitoring and the integration of theoretical knowledge with practice. Towards the end of the project, a conference with about 180 participants was organized with representatives from the University of Lodz, the Technical University of Lodz, Medical University of Lodz, as well as entrepreneurs and employees of public administration. Major interest in the subject addressed in the conference resulted in the decision to make a cycle of conferences organized by the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Lodz under the title CHEMONIT. The module enabled to alter the way of training and working with innovative devices, thus allowing the graduates to prepare better for their profession. As a result, attractiveness and quality of education and enriched offer teaching has risen. The module was addressed to ca. 120 undergraduate students and graduates of bachelor per year.
