Description

Current international events and geopolitical tensions in Europe raise a number of questions about the influence of media content on the attitudes and opinion of different social and ethnic groups. The project will help to integrate topics related to these issues in the study programmes of the involved institutions. With this we aim to provide answers to the questions related to audience`s perception of media content and media effects on young people. In light of this, the project will contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation between Latvia and Norway by carrying out a mobility as a supplementary action to the research project "Phenomenons of the contemporary mediated environment: propaganda, youth audience and media effects". With the mobility project we aim to strengthen the academic capacity of the involved institutions by developing and implementing a study module of 16 academic hours for bachelor and master students, which will be elaborated based on the findings from the research project. During the project the study module will be piloted and later applied to different audiences of learners in Latvia and Norway. The main foreseen impacts are; increased competitiveness and international cooperation of the academic institutions involved in the project; mobility of the academic staff and students; development of interdisciplinary and internationally oriented study offer in the field of media and communication; and impact on media education in Latvia and Norway. Our project will fill the gap in the study content for media and journalism students related to media reception and media effects among young audiences in Latvia and in Norway. At the moment these themes are covered in a fragmented way. For Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) this project means strengthening ViA as international university, pursuing excellence and competitiveness in education according to the strategy of ViA 2010 - 2015.
