During the project MobArDe the AAL’s students’ of textile art knowledge and skills will be improved by acquiring diverse methods, techniques, new approaches of design thinking in study process and handling of modern study equipment. The students will obtain different approach in work with their graduation projects. Thus, it will impact their qualification and further – ability to succeed in labour market in the field of art and design. Academic staff of the AAL, KHIO and KHIB taking part at the MobArDe will exchange experience, teaching methods, new approaches, use of different materials and techniques in the field of design and art. Thus, it will give overall impact at the AAL strategic development and diversification of study methods at the KHIO and KHIB. Project will strengthen partnership between the AAL, KHIO and KHIB in future within the framework of Erasmus+ programme (continuation of mobility of students and academic staff), KUNO - Nordplus network comprising 17 Nordic-Baltic fine art academies, CIRRUS - Nordic-Baltic Network of Art and Design Education and other collaboration projects. There are 2 student and 7 academic staff mobility planed.

Summary of project results

From planned 2 student and 7 academic staff mobility implemented are 2 student and 6 staff mobility. Project necessity is justified by need to transfer an innovative study methods, professional technology and exchange work experience. Art Academy of Latvia (AAL) has preserved strong academic and practical qualities in study process including mimetic rendering and these qualities was a valuable impact on developing diverse study methods for academic staff of Oslo National Academy of Arts (KHIO). Professors from KHIO held Drawing workshops for AAL students of Painting and Metal design departments. Students gained new experience and information about Norwegian art, but academic staff took over experience about new teaching methods. One staff mobility did not take place because of professors maternity leave and KHIO could not offer another staff instead. Second project partners - Bergen Academy of Art and Design (KHIB) - academic staff members provided workshops for students from AAL Textile Art department, such as methods for changing the surface and properties of textile. New teaching and working methods were tried like shrinking, pleating, felting, out-burning, from 2D to 3D and laminating. Academic staff members from Textile department of AAL developed several methods how to transform plastic bottles, plastic bags. KHIB students and academic staff members were introduced with ideas, examples and innovative methods on durability of ecological materials. Both AAL mobility students have acquired skills in using new methods and modern equipment, obtained new approaches for their graduation projects, thus increasing their competitiveness in labour market.

Summary of bilateral results

A student from AAL is planning to go to Bergen weave textile factory to do her BA diploma work, because, unfortunately in Latvia it is not possible to weave a wider fabric, and there are essential color, material and fineness restrictions for her diploma work. Cooperation with the Bergen Academy of Art and Design students (although for her private funds) has made it possible to implement her ideas into life. Working with the sublimation colors, which makes it easy, fast and convenient to operate on polyester fibers, Bergen Academy of Art and Design professor Lise Finn knowledge of color chemistry are widely used in the process. Bergen Arts and Design Academy, when moving to a new building, is planning to donate two rooms to Latvian Arts Academy. AAL stategic development and diversification of study methods are revised based on experience gained during the mobility.
