Description
Ana Matey is a Spanish artist, photographer and art manager. She is responsible for the artistic space ARTóN and has organized close to fifty activities related to art and performance, both in Madrid and in other European cities. The Exchange project is a cooperation between ARTóN and Enclave de Acción (based in Madrid and Granada respectively), two platforms for the practice, dissemination, documentation, research and training in performance art. Ana Matey will collaborate with Isabel León, Domingo Garrido and Sergio Muro in the project. The result of the project will be an artistic residency in Norway for the Spanish artists. They will perform and exhibit with Performance Art Oslo at Atelier Nord ANX in Oslo for ten days in the spring of 2014. Performance Art Oslo is an artist run initiative with the aim to create a network and opportunities for performance artists. Support is provided to help address fragmentation and to stimulate artist mobility and capacity development. The exchange of knowledge and experiences will have a positive impact on the development of a Spanish-Norwegian performing art network.
Summary of project results
Spanish artist Ana Matey took up a residency in Norway during March 2014. She took part in the project “Exchange” together with Spanish artists Isabel León, Domingo Garrido and Sergio Muro and Norwegian artists Ida Grimsgaard, Franzisca Siegrist, Inger-Reidun Olsen and Susanne Irene Fjørtoft. Performance Art Oslo coordinated the gathering. The artists were divided into four teams and together they created a performance through improvisation. They worked together for seven days and on 5 April, Ana Matey, who collaborated with Inger-Reidun Olsen, held their performance “Are they super heroes?” for the public at Atelier Nord in Oslo. One of the objectives in funding this project was to stimulate capacity development. The overall cooperation between the artists is as important as the final result. Furthermore, the project is expected to have a positive impact on the development of a Spanish-Norwegian performing arts network. The cooperation between the artists might mark the beginning of future dialogue and contribute to reaching this goal. In fact, a meeting between the eight artists that collaborated on the projects is expected to take place in Spain in 2015.
