Description

The quality and environmental friendliness of providing the service of public transportation hides more potential than today´s solutions enable to exploit. One of the major disadvantages is the disunity of the public transportation network is that different transport types (buses, trains, trolleys, trams, subways, taxies, planes, ships) operate autonomously through different service providers and mutual coordination is virtually non-existent. This open call project, originating from small grant scheme, aims to develop a management software PublicTicket for purchasing, sales and resource management of public transportation services that enables to achieve remarkable resource savings and provides important value added to the public transportation service. Companies providing public transportation and supporting are able to take into use the modules of PublicTicket software (as a Service basis or by purchasing a software license). Project is implemented as donor partnership project, four project partners are involved in the project activities: Uptime Solutions OÜ, Sebe AS, Lux Express Estonia AS and Nerikska AS.

Summary of project results

• Public Ticket project was undertaken with a goal of developing fully integrated management software for purchasing, sales and resource management of multi-modal public transportation, including bus, ferry and train operators. Today they use different tools for different purposes in their daily operations, with most of them not being integrated. Thus the operation can be inefficient and costly, resulting in higher costs for public transport upkeep. T Grupp AS managed to build a cloud-based infrastructure that covers the whole business-cycle of public transport operators, allowing them to lower their labour costs and offer better services to their clients. • During the PublicTicket project, the team delivered a cloud-based infrastructure for public transport operators, that included amongst other features: o Marketing and sales environment for companies providing multi-modal land and marine transport services and ticket sales agents; o Comfortable route planning and ticket purchasing environment for the end user (the passenger); o Resource management and planning environment for public transportation companies incl. a solution supporting resource planning and central dispatching necessary for maintaining route networks; o Management system for parcel delivery companies, that provides more efficient use of public transportation; o Environment for planning repairs and maintenance works for transport operators; • As a result of delivering the planned functionalities of PublicTicket, operators participating in the project were able to increase their revenue by 5-10%, while reducing back-office costs by 10-20%, specifically by: o increasing their sales network and competitiveness, o informing their passengers automatically about changes or delays on routes o bringing additional revenue from parcel delivery service with public transport vehicles, o being able to integrate with different modes of transport over a generic API o reducing manpower responsible for organizing and dispatching maintenance and repairs of vehicles etc Thanks to those functionalities being delivered, the project directly contributed to those operators being able to attract more customers to switch over from using a private car to public transport vehicles and decreasing the ecological footpath of those passengers.

Summary of bilateral results

• As a result of bilateral partnership with their Norwegian partner, the project promoter managed to find good contacts with public transport operators in Norway and Sweden, who were interested in participating in the project as a non-binding partners. This gave us incredibly valuable insight and feedback about our project goals and features being delivered to partners. At the same time, those partners learned a lot about how to rearrange their business processes to become more efficient in providing their services to passengers. • One of the main results of the project for T grupp AS was to be able to build a strong and mutually beneficial partnership with one of the biggest transport operators in Norway, which currently has proceeded also into negotiations about mutual shareholders and investment agreement, allowing PublicTicket project to evolve and expand globally.
