Description

The project aims to help the people with mental illness to live as much as possible in the community so that their medical, psychological and social needs can be met there. In particular, the activities promote their social roles and social contacts, develop their communicative skills, and support their relationships with family, friends and other people. The output of the project is the development of newly created activities for people with mental illness in the context of aftercare in their natural environment as an alternative to life in a psychiatric hospital or a psychiatric ward of a hospital and also information activities aimed at de-stigmatization of these people. The main target group is the mentally ill people. Secondary target groups are the families and close social surrounding of the mentally ill people. The partner will provide knowledge and experience and the support of cooperation between both organizations. He will also help to highlight activities of the clients at a public event.

Summary of project results

The project aimed at helping the people with mental illness to live as much as possible in the community so that their medical, psychological and social needs could be met there. In particular, the activities promoted their social roles and social contacts, developed their communicative skills, and supported their relationships with family, friends and other people. This aim of the project has been fulfilled. The following specific results were achieved: a) de-institutionalization and de-stigmatization of psychiatrically ill clients - development of community care for this people, b) expanding of alternative forms of psychiatric care to integrate people with mental illness into ordinary social life and community (development of the volunteer program for people with mental illness, c) organization of community events to allow for new forms of social interaction of clients and informal communication with other clients, volunteers, social workers and family members, d) organization of support group for clients and family members, e) preparation and implementation of workshop series with aim to share best practices of beneficiary and information about its volunteering project (volunteers in Dobroduš in this way inspired other organizations to establish similar volunteering programs in other regions of the Czech Republic), f) destigmatization (film, spot, leaflets) and expanding awareness of people with mental illness and barriers, integration of people with mental illness into society. In total, the beneficiary carried out 47 Community/club activities (Club of lazy tourists, cinemas, lecture about Mathematics, guitar concert etc.), 1 four-day trip for the clients and their family members, volunteers and workers of Dobroduš, 45 meetings of support group for clients, 16 meetings of support group for family members and 5 workshop series. One of the major accomplishments of the project is shooting of the movie “I´m a human, not a diagnosis” and a spot "We are not afraid of people with mental illness".
