Summary of project results

Due to relocation into better, newly and fully equipped premises with sufficient capacity, setting up of the system of complex psychiatric rehabilitation and implementation of new or more frequent and wider scope of therapeutic programmes, it was possible to contribute towards achieving of the goal of the project – improving of mental health care services in South Bohemia Region. Former premises were insufficient in relation to the hygienic standards as well as standards of the provided care. Thanks to the project implementation, there has been set individual approach towards patients taking into account their individual needs. There were also realised different types of therapies and creative workshops for patients such as ergotherapy, hippotherapy, canistherapy, ceramic workroom, etc.) or, for instance, practicing of the normal life skills in training kitchen in order to prepare patients for return into their normal life. There was increased the number of the beds in the hospital from 57 to 81, and thus, the waiting time for hospitalisation was decreased. After the pilot implementation of the comprehensive rehabilitation system of the project described in the study, which is one of outputs of the project, it could be said that due to the complex and effective care for patients during their hospitalization, there is decreasing tendency of rehospitalisation. Conclusions of the pilot study are, among others, as follows: 1) 32% of pilot group patients assessed their mental health state as very improved before their release from hospital 2) 88% patients perceived new psychiatric rehabilitation system as valuable 3) less then 1% of patients perceived their mental health state as worsen. During the project implementation, there were 47 employees educated in various aspects connected to the psychiatric rehabilitation (overall 116 different courses). Waiting time for hospitalisation was decreased to 4 – 6 weeks (from previously more then 6 – 8 weeks). In newly equipped cafeteria, there were realised 13 different destigmatization actions (such as e.g. exhibitions, concerts, poem reading etc.) and family therapies (1x per 14 days). There was no donor project partner.
