Description

The project is held in cooperation on common research interest of the Institutions in Performance Oriented Architecture (POA) through the method Systems Oriented Design (SOD). Those fields are represented at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design by world’s key persons in the disciplines, POA by Michael Hensel and SOD by Birger Sevaldson. The case study of FUA TUL’s PhD student’s, Marie Davidova’s, research on Wood as a Primary Medium to Architectural Performance will be applied and the results will be presented to the academy. In the same time, the project covers advising of Marie Davidova’s PhD project, the workshop, public lectures, discussions, common crits, conference attendance and publications which will inseminate the field to the academic audience and strengthen the engagement in common interest of the institutions and their connections.

Summary of project results

The cooperation project developed common research interest of the Institutions in Performance Oriented Architecture (POA) through the method Systems Oriented Design (SOD). This was namely reached by great collaboration with key figures in the field, Michael Hensel and Birger Sevaldson from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. The case study of FUA TUL’s PhD student’s, Marie Davidova’s, research Wood as a Primary Medium to Architectural Performance: A Case Study in Performance Oriented Architecture Approached through Systems Oriented Design was applied and the increased quality results were presented to academy, administration and politicians, industry and general public. This was reached through advising of Marie Davidova’s PhD project, workshop, public lectures, discussions, common crits, conference attendance and publications. We are receiving very good feedbacks to our work from all the mentioned groups of the audience. The project strengthened the engagement in common interests of the institutions and their connections. The cooperation increased the quality of current state and generated new research questions. Thanks to this, new projects and publication collaborations are planned among the participants. The project is built on previews connections of Marie Davidova, PhD research fellow at FUA TUL with Oslo School of Architecture and Design, where she gained her master degree. In that sense, the partners are in connection for many years since. The author wish to establish the connection between Czech and Norwegian academy through common events and hope that more projects will happen between the institutions afterwards as she wish to be active at both of the sides. The institutions have common interests in research but just haven’t meat each other through cooperation. We truly believe that through the established friendships, we will extend the cooperation between all the other participants. The project will be mainly implemented to the new generations of architects researchers through their education based on lectures, publications, workshops, etc. The lectures will be public and also the representatives of governance will be invited. The publication of Marie Davidova’s PhD thesis will be available at both of the institutions and also sent to related governance. By receiving the publicity, we will be able to reach the future funding.

Summary of bilateral results

Female PhD students were encouraged to attend reviews and studios in Oslo. This straightened the research of one two female PhD students and one academic staff. Cooperation on M. Davidová’s PhD research generated new relations between the collaborators. It reached way much better quality. The justification of luck of women in Czech academy is their lack of qualification. A new generation of female researches got chance to increase it. Other activities were public. The attendants learned the methodology of SOD through common workshop in Liberec and discussion with B. Sevaldson. His lecture on SOD and lecture on POA by M. Hensel spread the knowledge not only to PhD students. After the lectures, common dinner followed with its attendants, to discuss the topics. The shared knowledge and connections are highly beneficial also for Norwegian academy. Ideas were spread and enriched the them in common interest through confrontation with different environmental conditions and culture. The project developed the concept of Performance Oriented Architecture (POA http://www.performanceorienteddesign.net/) through the method of Systems Oriented Design (SOD http://www.systemsorienteddesign.net/) on a case study of PhD project: Wood as a Primary Medium to Architectural Performance. The cooperation between the Czechia and Norway enriched the field of POA and SOD by data from different location, ecologically, as well as socio-culturally. This was reached through common publications, advising, reviews, opponentur, discussion, lectures and workshop. It also spread the knowledge to the locations where they wouldn’t get otherwise. All this straighten the relations among the institutions and generated bigger network. The visit of female PhD students with supervisor Milos Florian at AHO increased the competitiveness of women in Czech academy through better contacts and qualification. The sent PhD thesis will have impact on political and building industry sustainable development.
