Description

The proposed project is focused on organising common field-work in the respective fields of life science in polar ecology: microbial ecology, phycology, botany, plant physiology, zoology, parasitology. This proposal of the University of South Bohemia (USB) and the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) is focused on life science. Separate proposal connects life and geographical science is given by Charles University in Prague. Both these parts are common components of polar ecology education and students share theoretical part of course. The project is intended to start intensive university education collaboration using field logistics capacities of USB and laboratory equipment of UNIS together with joining scientific teams of both institutions. The most important benefit should be offering possibility for common work of Czech and Norwegian students and enhancing their chances of further continuous cooperation in their scientific carriers.

Summary of project results

The proposed project was focused on organising common summer and winter field-work in the respective fields of life science in polar ecology: microbial ecology, phycology, botany, plant physiology, zoology, parasitology. Summary of bilateral results

The main benefit was that we have learned about implementation process of international projects at the partner university. Also to learn how is knowledge about administration gained and shared and what are the possible ways of supporting university researchers in achieving better results in highly competitive schemes of European science. Second main benefit were newly established partnerships and links useful for future H2020 and/or Erasmus+ mutual applications. The most important for the team members were the job shadowing visits. All together six people took part in such visits, spending a week meeting colleagues and other experts from the hosting institution. While visiting the hosting institution, presentations of home institution were conducted, all members taking part in them. Also, presentation of the visits and their outcomes were carried out at home institution, introducing not only the project itself but also EHP funds and the funding schemes.
