Description

The aim of research of applicant is air quality assessment by using pine needles focusing on the monitoring of environmental contamination caused by organic substances. Norwegian University of Life Sciences is focused on global challenges regarding the environment. Prof. Roland Kallenborn is a part of Department of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science and his interests are environmental chemistry, fate of pollutants and long-range transport which influence also arctic and inhabited areas. During the mobility, the applicant would like to focus on evaluation her samples from high mountains. She wants explore needles of Swiss mountain pine on sites which are near ski resorts (increasing values of perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) due to fluorinated ski waxes and special sport clothes). Secondly, idea is identify ski areas in Norway and sample needles. Application her methodology and view of Norway´s researchers allows compare results and evaluate contamination of PFCs compounds from different parts of Europe.

Summary of project results

In the first week, has been taken note of the workplace and frequently discussed with prof. Kallenborn about choosing of sampling sites near ski resorts. Second week was a field work and travel around choosing sampling sites. Pine needles were sent to Recetox because analysis had to be done in the same laboratory conditions as Slovakian samples. They evaluated samples from Slovakian high mountains and after evaluation of samples from Norway, than started to prepare our collaborating publication.
