Description

The aim of the Art-Research Bridge cooperation project between FFA BUT Brno and The School of Humanities of the University of Island, is to coordinate artistic and theoretical research of teachers and students working on topics related to the field of Media Art and Digital Culture which interconnects the scientific and humanities fields of both universities. The project aims to continue with previously established cooperation between the National Gallery of Reykjavik, their newly opened research laboratory, the Vasulka Chamber and the evolving Vasulka Kitchen project at FFA BUT established within the framework of the faculty's expanding media archive. The project proposes support of academic participation in conferences and meetings planned for both cities. The conference in Reykjavik will take place at the Vasulka Chamber, a department of the National Gallery, with academic participants. In Brno the conference will be guaranteed by FFA BUT and the Media Archive.

Summary of project results

The aim of the Art-Research cooperation project between FFA BUT Brno and The School of Humanities of the University of Island was to coordinate the artistic and theoretical research of teachers and students working on topics related to the field of Media Art and Digital Culture. The project continue with previously established cooperation between the National Gallery of Reykjavik, the Vasulka Chamber and the evolving Vasulka Kitchen project at FFA BUT established within the framework of the faculty's media archive. The project proposed the support of academic participation in conferences and meetings which were planned for both cities. The conference in Reykjavik took place at the Vasulka Chamber, a department of the National Gallery, with academic participants. In Brno a conference was produced by FFA BUT. Creative projects were realized by students from the New Media Department of FFA BUT and theoretical papers were delivered at conferences in Reykjavik and Brno. The project is a further development to the already established relationship between Reykjavík and Brno. It has been instrumental in the development of an international perspective for students of both countries. In addition it provided a professional framework within which the participating artists and professionals could gain valuable experience with the creation and presentation of their work, invaluable for their future development as theorists and practical artists. Programs bringing together artists and theorists are important for the provisions of feedback between disciplines.

Summary of bilateral results

The overall objective of the project was to ensure the mobility and participation of students and pedagogues from the Czech Republic and Iceland that are focused on Digital and Media Studies and ensure their participation in conferences of high quality which will be comprised of professionals in the field. The project aimed to and was successful at: promoting interdisciplinary projects in the arts of new technologies, supporting the research of young scholars, artists, theorists and curators, organizing creative workshops, conferences and seminars on the border between art, film, new media art and performativity, with common outputs in each of the partner countries. Through these activites the project partners aim towards establishing long-term cooperation between partner institutions.
