Description

The project “SYMPHOMANIA”, promoted by Hilda Kazasyan, one of the best known Bulgarian jazz singers, aims to motivate and encourage the development of professional skills among young artists, and students of music, as well as talented youth from minorities and disadvantaged people from small settlements in the country. It also aims to present symphonic music in various forms to a wide audience with diverse musical preferences. In the past few years a cultural vacuum has been created, replacing traditional culture with subcultural projects and products, and allowing for the importance of training and the development of talent to be underestimated. For seven years the authors of the project have been working to create products that stimulate and develop the talents of students from musical schools in the country. The authors are trying to involve them in the creation and implementation of copyright projects in order to promote symphonic music. The project’s goal will be achieved through a series of five concerts in several areas, thus making up for the current low numbers of concerts by famous artists due to lack of finances. Concerts will be held outdoor, in public places accessible to the general public. This will specifically lead Roma and other minority groups to participate in the ethnic music programme that is performed by prominent musicians from Roma and Armenian origin. Their participation on stage with established musicians will showcase their efforts, skills and knowledge and facilitate the development and deployment of their talents and traditions. Concerts will be recorded and broadcast by national and local radio and television. The records and videos from the concerts will be available for free use without any commercial purpose. The project is in line with the National Strategy for Roma Integration 2012-2020.

Summary of project results

Over the past 20 years a lot of reforms were brought in the public life of the country, formed on a market basis. When a cultural vacuum was created, replacing traditional culture with subcultural projects and products. New projects were created that don’t require acquisition, maintenance and development of professional knowledge and skills. Training and development of talents are underestimated alongside with combining genres, promotion of young musicians and artists, development of various forms of musical culture. For seven years the authors of the project are working to create products that stimulate and develop talents of students from music schools in the country. Due to financial, organizational and management problem is difficult or organize symphonic concerts within the country repeatedly. A main challenge for the project is the creation of a music program with authors’ works and examples of world classics, arranged for the occasion by symphonic, jazz, ethnic and folk music. The combination of popular and alternative music genres vitalizes the works. Due to the immobility of this kind of art, it doesn’t reach those who are deprived from economic, social and other differences and don’t have the opportunity to directly attend cultural and musical events. The implementation of the project busted the development of the cultural industry in the country. The project adds value and contribution to cultural diversity and non-traditional forms of communication for people with different cultural interests, education, ethnicity and age. Reconciliation of various genres in music program for concerts, promotion of young musicians; involving people from different ethnic communities – all these provided a better understanding, popularity and activated cultural dialogue between professionals, amateurs and connoisseurs of contemporary art. The project released stereotypes and eased the perception of symphonic music from a wider range of people, especially youth and those inexperienced with this kind of art. A musical program was created, including symphonic, jazz and ethnic musical instruments. The same was widely spread in Montana, Kyustendil, Ihtiman, Pazardzhik and Yambol by conducting 5 concerts in the settlements. It was a newly formed orchestra with 20 young musicians from the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School. One of the soloists was Roma. The concerts were attended by 10,000 people. A film on the project and its products was made, with audiences exceeding 50,000 people.
