Description

The project concerns the Vaulted bridge of Mustafa Pasha, a monument of national significance dating from the 16th century which is a symbol of the town of Svilengrad. The project comprises conservation and restoration works to preserve the monument in its almost authentic appearance and its use as a pedestrian link. Besides construction works, the project also envisages activities to revitalise the open space of the bridge through mapping technology, which will enable an attractive presentation of historical facts, elaboration of a 3-D model of the bridge, smart phone applications and a hologram of the bridge. Furthermore, an open-air museum will be established adapted to the provided infrastructure for interactive presentation of digital exhibitions; housing a small-scaled model of the complex of historical buildings around the museum; the presentation of the museum exhibition to 20 stakeholders in the Donor countries via teleconference bridge. The project is in line with the objectives of the programme and the measure since it represents a model for the protection and promotion of cultural heritage architectural monuments by restoration, renovation and preservation of such cultural heritage and it focuses on the historically developed urban cultural resources as a basis for the development of cultural tourism.

Summary of project results

The project targeted weaknesses related to the presentation of the old bridge in Svilengrad and its use and promotion. Activities for restoration and conservation contributed to the overall exposure of the bridge, while activities for interpretation increased the average stay of tourists and helped to increase their satisfaction, provoked interest, curiosity and excitement among visitors in ways that cause them to return and visit again attractions and not least to present the region's history in a new and attractive way. The promotion activities and the promotional information materials provoked the interest and created a positive image of the municipality and as a result helped to increase the number of visitors. The activities aimed at create a tourism product which become a real alternative source of income for the local population and to contribute to the development of the tourism sector and ancillary industries The project presents a model for preservation and exhibition of cultural heritage and architectural monument building , and the creation of conditions for the presentation of contemporary art through the Restoration , renovation and preservation of cultural heritage. It focuses on the historically developed urban cultural resources as a basis for the development of cultural tourism. The project aimed the restoration / renovation of buildings of cultural heritage of Bulgaria; as well as to revitalize exhibition spaces / platforms through interactive technologies and protecting areas of cultural heritage and development of open-air museum. The aim of the project is fully achieved and its impact is extremely high among the public. Since the launch of the project there were numerous comments on social networks and local electronic media. Guests of the city who has visited the site remain highly impressed with the renewed vision of the cultural and historical monument. The project is based on the mandatory need the cultural attraction to have utilitarian value, and it introduces the concept of contemporary urban mobility with the change of the transport bridge into pedestrian with all necessary adaptations for mothers with children, children and disadvantaged people. Attracting audiences will not be restricted to local residents but it is for all those who like alternative cultural spaces and like social and creative challenge - teenagers, students and others from Bulgaria and donor countries and from other countries, because the communication channels are youtube and facebook and specialized social networks.
