Description

The Roma population in Bagaciu Commune is living in poverty, a situation with direct consequences on the development of their children and youth. A large number of school-aged children have problems with writing, reading and numeracy. The main objective of the project is to increase school participation and improve school performance for 60 Roma children by involving them in different activities. Moreover, the project will improve knowledge, life skills and social abilities among another 100 Roma children and youth by involving them in activities to be provided by 5 clubs: nature, internet, family, sports and culture. The proposed activities will highlight the importance of education and engage Roma parents in the education of their children by counseling 100 Roma families. All these activities will be held in the Educational Centre Bagaciu, which will be rehabilitated.

Summary of project results

The project was implemented as the Roma population in Bagaciu Commune is living in poverty, a situation with direct consequences on the development of their children and youth. A large number of school-aged children have problems with writing, reading and numeracy. The main objective of the project was to increase school participation and improve school performance for 60 Roma children by involving them in different activities. The project activities helped to improve knowledge, life skills and social abilities among another Roma children and youth by involving them in activities to be provided by 5 clubs: nature, internet, family, sports and culture. All the activities were held in the Educational Centre Bagaciu, which was rehabilitated and equipped through this project. 150 children were direct beneficiaries, they participated at after school activities and food was also provided for them. The parents were also involved in counselling activities and 10 specialists were directly involved.
