Description

In this project we intend to reduce the marginalization and social exclusion of the children and youngsters in the village, children that come from very poor families offering them a generous package of social, educational and health services. In order to assure the co-financing or contracting for the services at county level, alongside with the services of the social center created (in a building offered by the Partner, but renovated by us) we intend to create a Guide of the social services and in NGO coalition we will persuade the authorities to respect the existing county development strategy. We offer IT and entrepreneurship training programmes, assisting the youngsters to remain in the community supporting them using the opportunities to develop different businesses in agriculture. We’ll gain visibility by organizing different events in the village, county and at national level, involving the business , political and diplomatic representatives. A strategic plan will be created and also a financial sustainability plan assuring the exchange of good practices between the partners, offering secondment and training to the employees.

Summary of project results

The project addressed multiple aspects that determine a poor quality of life, along with social and economic isolation, of people living in rural community of Bucsani, Giurgiu County. The high rate of unemployment and a majority of population living in severe poverty are related with low school attendance, school dropout, and poor education. The project proposed a set of interventions aimed at answering social needs for positive interaction and communication, increasing involvement in community life, achieving a positive self-image and accessing rights and information. These services were provided within the Community Centre that was created and endowed in the project. 246 beneficiaries received counselling and educational services according to personalised intervention plans. Children received support to improve educational performance and were involved in non-formal education activities. 300 persons received information on health issues, 33 persons benefited of vocational counselling, and 75 parents were counselled on how to improve parental skills. A local initiative committee was created to work on a model of local intervention and got involved in raising funds for the community activities. Also, a network of NGOs and institutions in Giurgiu County was initiated in order to provide adequate and timely services to those in need. The promoter was involved in a strategic planning process and shaped directions of action for the next period.
