Description
The project is needed because the lack of information concerning selective household waste among Balilesti citizens. The overall objective is the development of active citizenship by involving school children, the youth and the elderly in voluntary actions for environmental protection. At the end of this project we expect an increase in the number of active citizens and volunteers, a change in the inhabitant’s attitude towards environmental issues and the participation of community members in public debates and actions for the environmental protection, no matter the age, religion, gender or ethnicity. During the project people will be quite often involved in activities of volunteering and they will also participate at debates and conferences regarding the subject. The project will benefit all citizens of Balilesti commune not taking into account age or gender.
Summary of project results
The project encouraged active citizenship through volunteering for the sustainable development of the community. It was a complex project, full of activities and positive results which have contributed to the achievement of the objectives. The project's importance is given by the way in which the citizenship spirit in this community developed - both through communication and through practical applications. Citizens' involvement in project activities for their own benefit was the best way to attract them to participate in the project. By highlighting the positive results of active citizenship and volunteering, the organisation ensured the future sustainability of the project, citizens of Balilesti being interested in participating in this type of activities. The large number of collected signatures during the information campaigns (over 500), the massive participation of the population in the ecological camps, in the analyses of a large number of water sources from the commune (over 50), as well as the interest shown by the local authorities for the project activities and conferences represent only a part of the tangible results delivered. The main benefit is the development of active citizenship in Balilesti and continuing some of the activities along with the trained mentors and the partner, Youth and Friendship Association.
