Description

The project "Employee looking for volunteering" aims to respond on the one hand to the need of the companies for more information, structured frameworks and quality volunteering opportunities for employees, and on the other hand to the need of NGOs’ for tailored tools and training in order to have the capacity to meaningfully engage employees in volunteering activities (VA). The project will reinforce active citizenship among employed people, educate private companies to support and facilitate the engagement of employees in community volunteering, and will build the capacity of NGOs to offer proper and quality services to employees and employers. Main activities include development of structured collaboration framework for companies (as suppliers of employee volunteers) and NGOs (as beneficiaries of the involvement of employee volunteers), tailored training for companies and NGOs, communication and dissemination activities.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to develop and promote employer supported volunteering among Romanian companies. Recent studies from Romania show that companies are increasingly interested in involving in the community as part of their corporate social responsibility programmes and that employees are increasingly interested to engage in volunteering in the local communities. The volunteer involvement of employees has lots of benefits for the community, for the employees themselves and also for the companies. Nevertheless, there is a very limited number of companies that have explicit procedures to support the volunteer engagement of their employees. Pro Vobis noticed that NGOs do not always have the capacity to engage employees in volunteer opportunities or to develop suitable opportunities for employees interested to involve. The project developed and tested a viable model for employee involvement in volunteer activities for the community, which promotes volunteerism among the companies and increases the capacity of NGOs to work with employee volunteers. The main results of the project are: 5 companies involved in the project (3 from Cluj-Napoca and 2 from Bucharest), 11 NGOs involved in the project (6 from Cluj-Napoca and 5 from Bucharest), 11 teams (59 employees) involved in volunteering activities during the project. Over 2.000 employees have seen the Photo Voice exhibitions displayed in the participating companies and 43 employees have shared their volunteering stories on the web page www.win-win.ro. A model for collaboration between NGOs and companies in order to support the involvement of employees in volunteering for the benefit of the community has been developed.
