Summary of project results

The project “Community grows through Volunteering” was born due to the weak involvement of the community in volunteer activities and lack of educational activities that would determine children and young people to engage in community issues as volunteers. The goal of the project was to expand, vary and promote the volunteering opportunities for the benefit of local community, moving towards a society based on activism and volunteering. To achieve this goal, the Promoter developed a volunteering online platform - www.platz.ro. The platform ensures projects’ transparency, attracts volunteers, promotes volunteering and also keeps track of the number of hours that volunteers spend in a particular project. In order to promote this platform and volunteering activities in general the Promoter undertook a promotion campaign in six local highschools situated in Sfantu Gheorghe, Targu Secuiesc and Covasna. The platform was also presented during two big events organised by the Promoter. As part of the promotion campaign, the Promoter’s representatives also presented the platform in different events organised by other local associations. A social media campaign was developed. An important part of the project was the implementation of an afterschool programme for children by the volunteers involved in the project. The programme was implemented in five localities, three of which were rural. The programme involved a total number of 127 children and 20 volunteer educators. During the programme, children participated in educational activities and in personal development training programmes based on nonformal education methods. A volunteer camp was organized for children and volunteers involved in the afterschool programme. Two days were dedicated to education towards volunteering and personal development for children, especially for the development of cooperation among different groups. On the last day a trip was organised, during which the participants experienced the volunteering programme “The Road of the Bread”. The key results of the project are: one volunteering online platform; 124 children and 20 teachers involved in the afterschool programme; a volunteering campaign that targeted both NGOs representatives and young people aged between 14-18 years old as main users of the platform.
