Description

The "Dar din Dar pentru Băgaciu" Project ("A gift from a Gift for Băgaciu") will contribute to the fight against poverty and the exclusion of vulnerable social groups in Băgaciu, with emphasis on the Roma community. The project will also stimulate the members of the community to grow skills and also actively participate in the economic and social environment, by engaging in the informing, consulting and decision-making process at local and county level. The medium and long term results will help develop a strong relation between ethnicity and also improve the standards of life for the Băgaciu's Roma community.

Summary of project results

According to the Social Welfare Office of the City Hall Băgaciu, 458 people are registered as searching for jobs and they benefit from the guaranteed minimum income. Community members (Hungarians, Romanians or Roma) have a low level of engagement in their community life. The "Gift from gift for Băgaciu" project contributes to the fight against poverty and exclusion of vulnerable social groups in Băgaciu, with emphasis on the Roma community. The project also stimulated the members of the community to grow skills and actively participate in the economic and social environment, by engaging in informing, consulting and decision-making processes at local and county level. The medium and long term results will help the development of strong relations between ethnicities and also improve the standards of life for Băgaciu's Roma community. 20 Roma disadvantaged families from Bagaciu have been trained in a vocational training course in growing animals and directly benefited of 20 cows. During the implementation period, 9 heifers of 6 months have been passed to other Roma families in Bagaciu and the rest of 11 heifers will be passed over to new families in the near future. This is a method of covering a basic need of disadvantaged families: the families that receive a cow further give the heifer (baby cow) to another family. The initial 20 beneficiaries of cows had agreed to pass the first heifer to another family from Bagaciu. This multiplying donation scheme contributes to a better cooperation among the Roma community members but also to the economic development of the community. As an additional activity of the project, 800 Roma from Bagaciu were informed about the resolutions of the local council, the financing opportunities in agriculture and other specific information regarding the agricultural income generating activities.
