Summary of project results

Given promoter's previous experience with students and parents from Galbinasi and considering the needs of the community and especially the socio-educational needs of the students, project's aim was to support the academic success of enrolled students from School No. 1 in Galbinasi, both by conducting educational programmes for children and by creating an educational programme for their parents as well. Through the project, 40 Roma and non-Roma students benefited, for 8 months, of remedial education and e-learning sessions - additional educational support in subjects like mathematics and Romanian language and literature. In the same time, for 10 months, they received counselling and educational, professional and personal development sessions, managing to improve the participation and school performance. Also, through signing an agreement, the parents committed that their children would not miss school or center’s activities and this led to a reduction of drop-out among students, both in the center and at school. The mentoring programme and the Intercultural Summer School contributed in raising the level of knowledge and understanding of the concepts of interculturality, diversity, ethnicity, self-esteem and also to improving their ethnic self-esteem and their personal life and career expectations. For 10 months students’ parents have benefited of a civic education programme that led to an increase of the quality of their inter-ethnic relations and an increased level of self-esteem, using intercultural dialogue.
