Description

The project’s aim is analysing, developing and testing an intelligent management system for the renewable energy sources in certain areas, especially in protected areas. Its role will be to provide sufficient electricity to consumers who cannot be connected to the national power grid, or for whom the connection involves very high costs or who would be supplied with very low quality electricity. We define the intelligent energy management system as a flexible energy management system, created by integrating multiple sources of renewable energy, allowing the preservation of energy. It also includes a distribution grid. The direct results are: 1 modern laboratory, fitted with efficient research equipment, 1 eco-friendly intelligent management system model applicable to protected areas and 8 research studies. The results contribute to strengthening the relationships of the Technical University of Iasi with research institutes, universities in order to conduct extensive research projects, creating conditions for the participation of young researchers in nationally and internationally funded scientific research project, as collaborators, within the Faculty’s project teams. From a scientific point of view, the results of the research are the following: 1 study of the hydropower potential of the permanent natural watercourse in the context of climate change, 1 intelligent energy system of the dispatcher type and a distribution micro-grid and 1 management strategy for the intelligent energy system. The beneficiaries of the project results are: researchers, PhD students, students, the partners of the project, the population of the area and across the country that benefit from the research results. The project involves creating a partnership between „Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi and its partners, thus contributing directly to strengthening bilateral relationships. This partnership will facilitate the transfer of knowledge, experiences and best practices.

Summary of project results

The following results/outcomes have been completed: - the technical documentation (SEI constructive and fitting solution); - Obtaining the necessary approvals for the construction of SEI; - STUDY 1: Bio structures for the protection of riverbanks; - STUDY 2: Study of the behaviour of the hydropower development at the identified location, under the conditions of operation in various regimes; - STUDY 3: Case studies for the fitting of the hydropower component of intelligent energy microsystems; - STUDY 4: Pre-study for the development of a modern hydrodynamics laboratory for machines and hydropower systems at UPT; - STUDY: 5 Study on the influence of the project works on the regime of surface waters and groundwater in the area; - STUDY 6: Micro grid development and control systems; - STUDY 7: Climate change impacts on hydropower; - STUDY 8: Realization of a mathematical/software model which, depending on the input data of an area, will custom configure a development scheme for an intelligent management system in another area within a protected area.

Summary of bilateral results

The project's results/outputs (8 studies) have been joinlty achieved, through a thorough cooperation. Additional, specific bilateral-oriented results have been achieved: - transfer of knowledge and best practices among specialists in the field from Romania and Norway; - knowledge transfer and project promotion events (bilateral seminar, press conferences, press releases, website, project promotion brochure); - a Scientific Volume of articles generated by the research conducted in the project by all the project’s partners – an additional result – achieved with no costs from the project’s budget - Study of the short and medium term impact, generated by the implementation of the Intelligent Energy System, on the biodiversity from the Vanatori Neamt natural Park – achieved in collaboration with Romsilva Administration of Vanători Neamț Natural Park RA – an additional result – achieved with no costs from the project’s budget.
