Description

Studies of the health needs in Janów district indicates a significant problem of cardiovascular diseases in the age group of 35-64. The aim of the project is to improve the availability of health services, as well as to raise the awareness among locals in this regard. There are only non-investment expenditures planned under the project and its goal will be achieved through the following actions: I. health promotion programmes in local community (24,000 participants, including 4,000 within health promotion picnics and 20,000 within the website health campaign) II. disease prevention programme among local communities (4,000 participants including 3000 under in-depth diagnostics). The target group of the project are local inhabitants of Janów district, aged 35-64. The project wil be not implemented in a partnership.

Summary of project results

Facing increasing mortality rate caused by cardiovascular diseases, the authorithies of Janów Lubelski implemented a project financed by norway grants, adressed to people aged 35-64. The aim of the project was to improve the availability of health services and to raise the awareness on preventing diseases. Medical part of the project was conducted by local health centre, an entity which is subjected to the Project Promoter. There were 4.040 local inhabitants participated in the screening (vs target value:4.000). In addition 15.000 refferals for patients were issued in order to conduct more comprehensive exams and diet consultations. Health promotion activities consisted in organizing 2 health picnics, 192 hours of phisical activities with proffesional instructors and 12 meetings with local society where lectures on health subjects were given. Events were attended by 26.787 people (vs target value: 24.000). Informative campaign was also organized i.e. printing posters, leaflets and brochures distributed in the area of Janów Lubelski. Direct benefits of this project are: a) increasing detection rate of diseases b) increasing of awareness on cardiovascular problems among locals which is expected to bring morbidity reduction in the future. In addition, the Project promoter obliged itself to obtain further effects by carry on activities initiated by the project i.e. screening (stationary-in the local health centre and mobile-during events), health picnics and sports events.
