Description

The main aim of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow is popularizing modern art and bringing it closer to the audience, for whom the realm of modern art is still remote from everyday reality. The project reflects the principles of cross-cultural dialogue and takes into consideration the multicultural history of Poland, a country once renowned for its tolerance. Relating to this tradition the project is going to familiarize the Polish viewer with the everyday, often dramatic life of people in the distant parts of the world, thus sensitizing them to others. Poland is homogeneous in terms of ethnicity and religion. However, global phenomena, like migration, cause more and more foreigners to settle in Poland, which necessitates the widespread promotion and understanding for diversity, especially if the latter entails poverty and tragedy. The universal, widely intelligible language of photography is a realm of art meant to raise human sensitivity. The project activities will take place in Cracow, Łodź, Prague and Nurmberg. The number of recipients of cultural and artistic events will amount 2 250.

Summary of bilateral results

The Partners undertaked to: technical suport, transfer for use of the artist's work in connection with the exhibition, publication and promotion, assistance in obtaining contacts to artists and institutions providing collections, including international cooperation, making available the own archive for the project, the assistance in the organization of artistic residencies for foreign artist, organized within the framework of the project, advice on project management, promotional support of the project based on the own experience. Museum and the Partner assume the continuation of the cooperation even after the scheduled completion of the project by the planned organization of joint exhibitions and exchange of artists. With the opportunity of direct contact with representatives of the Trondheim Kunstmuseum, especially visits to Norway the Applicant wishes to establish contacts with other cultural institutions, especially museums and galleries to be able to create a network of contacts in the region, which shall be used to implement the following projects and exchange of artists. Thanks to the bilateral partnership the Polish museum benefited from the experience of Norway, especially its well evolved methods of the promotion of cultural diversity through art. That`s way the project enjoyed great interest from customers, much larger than originally expected. Cooperation between Norway – a highlydeveloped country and Poland–a developing country, concerned a cultural project which shows a broad picture of the situation in Sudan and other underdeveloped countries. Apart from considerable artistic merit, the event also had a longterm influence on the improvement of the social situation through fomenting a greater understanding of the problems of the Third World–which is very important at a time of globalisation. The parties agreed that the partner shall not have any financial obligations to the organizer due to the project, and all costs associated with the implementation of cooperation were covered by the project budget.
