Summary of project results

The main aim of the project "Creating of modern concert space and preservation of historical - cultural heritage of Łódź through maintenance work within the Karol Poznański Palace" was to carry out comprehensive maintenance works in the Karol Poznański Palace, the present seat of the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź. The objective of the project was to safe-guard and conserve this important cultural heritage building and its related monumental interiors for future generations and make them publicly accessible. The project included: building and restoration works, modernisation of air conditioning and electrical circuit, creating low-current and multimedial instalations, renovation of mobile antiques which are part of Palace’s furniture equipment, purchasing hardware and accesories, digitalisation of collections, information and promotion. There are 640 m2 of renovated surface in total. Restoration works implemented as part of the project have allowed many representative building interiors including concert halls to regain greatness. This historical space was adapted to introduce modern sound technologies and music presentations, which will allow organisation of concerts for the audiences of 200 (due to the possibility of connecting halls) and will increase its availability for art recipients. The project boosted the availability of the building as ‘The Palace of Music’ which is attractive for participants of cultural events from the city and region and also for tourists from all over the country and world seeking traces of old Łódź and its industrial past. It has greatly improved the working conditions of Academy’s students and teachers, enhancing comfort of studying and performing in antique interiors of ‘Palace of Music’.The results of the project have been published via the digital platform called ‘virtual walk’. This modern form of communication allows preservation of the restored spaces without the traces of exploitation. The digital space of the palace and its historical surroundings are made available to a wide audience. Due to its contemporary form, the digital material is presenting both the historical spaces and the historical background of those spaces to give the best picture of the cultural heritage.
