Description

The project addresses the need for greater awareness and active involvement of young people in the civil movement for environment protection and creating condition for them to join actively the work of environmental NGOs. The project aims at enabling young active people to join the Young Friends of the Earth Europe (YFOEE) and support causes locally and internationally. First, a large-scale awareness campaign will be launched in 8 universities in 4 cities including 2 film festivals on environmental movies. Second, the applicant will select 4 trainees for its traineeship programme. Third, 20 young activists will be trained to carry out campaigns. Next, young people will be enabled to take part in YFOEE’s summer camp in Bulgaria and in local youth initiatives. The project will benefit the main target group of young people aged 18-30 enabling them to feel prepared and supported in their active involvement in environment protection.

Summary of project results

The project activities carried out resulted in the following outcomes: - a youth organization with Za Zemyata (YOUTH Za Zemyata) was set up with 5 active members and a group of 300 supporters who are members of the Facebook group and a mailing list. - Za Zemyata and YOUTH Za Zemyata made new contacts and had the opportunity for cooperation with the network of the NGO Young Friends of the Earth Europe (YfoEE). YOUTH Za Zemyata became an active member of YfoEE. YOUTH Za Zemyata took part in festivals and events where it promoted the organization and attracted new members. The main target group were young people aged 18-30. Each project activity was targeted at this group and the active involvement of young people was the main focus of the project. Several trainings and paid internships were organized for YOUTH Za Zemyata and they had the opportunity to develop and implement their own initiatives, i.e. a competition and an exhibition, clean-up of Rila National Park, organic horticulture training and food independence event. Thus the young people had to opportunity to take part in the activities of Za Zemyata as a result of the experience, knowledge, skills and contacts established by the project. Za Zemyata arranged for long-term cooperation with some of them. The following events were held and materials were prepared under the project, i.e. information leaflets, posters and flyers with information about the project, film projections with discussions, information days at universities, training on how to be active citizens in 3 modules, a media event – YOUTH Za Zemyata Festival, 4 internship places for young people with Za Zemyata and a Guide of the Young Activist.
