Description

The project seeks to provide young people in County Olkusz will skills to perform the various social roles in an informed and responsible manner. The training program includes opportunities for participants to do project of their own design and it is expected to develop local leaders who will demonstrate commitment and skills that will inspire others to follow in their footsteps. Sustainability will be ensured by developing/training 10 people (teachers, voluntary work co-ordinators) to become mentors for young leaders. Similar activities in the future may therefore be 'cost-free' and may rely on the existing training and support program of citizenship building. This project is for the Association another in a series of efforts to foster youth involvement in local community affairs.

Summary of project results

"In 2013, the Association conducted a survey among non-governmental organizations in the Olkusz municipality and it showed that they were getting young volunteers to work with them, but those were mostly single actions. There was no mechanism to support socially active students (volunteers, student self-governments). While answering the questions prepared for developing the project, the students and their teachers often pointed out that they lacked the skills necessary for undertaking responsible initiatives. The aim of the project implementation was to prepare young people from the Olkusz municipality to perform various social roles in a professional and responsible manner. 33 young local leaders were trained on how to develop and implement community projects. Two training cycles were conducted for youth leaders and voluntary work coordinators. Young people implemented 24 social mini projects addressed to 2,700 people. They also prepared one project designed for the town participatory budget. Secondary education students from the Olkusz municipality will be the beneficiaries of the project implementation. The project partner - the Volunteer Centre in Zamość - facilitated the training on international exchange of volunteer projects."
