Description

The project's objective is to combat discrimination because of gender identity. In particular the issues of transsexualism, so often misunderstood, will be featured in our activities. The project includes artistic, cultural and educational activities directed to the inhabitants of Cracow and surroundings, including the LGBTQ community, and workshop activities directed go LGBTQ people (mainly transsexual people). Thus, the project aims at educating through art the local community, integrating and enhancing competencies of LGBTQ people on the gender diversity, as well as strengthening transsexual people through support for the artistic expression of their identity. The project includes activities such as training and integration trip for 15 volunteers of the foundation in order to enhance their competencies in the field of transsexualism, 4-day festival (estimated number of recipients: 1200), and artistic workshops for transgender people.

Summary of project results

"Not only are transgender persons suffering marginalisation in social life - they are also considerably less visible within the LGBT movement itself. While homosexuality-related issues form a crucial component of the Polish public debate, matters of sexual diversity are considerably less known to the general public. Furthermore, the transgender perspective does not enjoy sufficient presence in LGBT organisations' activities. The purpose of the project was to make issues of sexual diversity central to LGBT community interests, and to foster the position of transgender persons. Project results involved the sensitisation of a total of 1,200 persons (representatives of local non-governmental organisations included) to issues of sexual diversity, and empowering 26 transsexual individuals. Trans*Festival, a four-day event focusing entirely on sexual diversity, was organised as part of the project. The Festival involved 4 art exhibitions, 5 film screenings, 6 workshops, and 16 presentations with accompanying debates. Furthermore, three artistic field workshops (photography, creative writing, fashion) were organised for 26 transgender persons. Workshop participants created pieces for future use in Foundation work in the area of fostering transsexuality-related knowledge. Project beneficiaries included 1,200 individuals (Festival attendants) and 26 workshop participants."
