Description

The project aims at conducting social consultations in the process of preparation of the Local Programme for Revitalisation in Łódź. The civic dialogue will be prepared by experts in civic participation and city revitalisation in cooperation with representatives of public administration. In our activities we plan to engage different groups of recipients – both city inhabitants and various groups of stakeholders. As a result, opinions gathered during consultations will cover both general, and more particular issues. The proposed methods of work are inspired by deliberative processes that encourage participants to cooperation and rational discussion. Thus, they will form a valuable contribution that can be used in the preparation of final version of the consulted document. The results of the project will help public administration to implement activities engaging inhabitants in revitalisation process.

Summary of project results

The Institute of Urban Development estimates that as much as 20 per cent of urban areas in Poland have been degraded. It's true that urban blight is apparent in various cities, but it is particularly visible in Łódź, the city struggling with social and economic problems, but also with very bad condition of historic buildings in the city center. Local government planned to create new city revitalization program. The objective of the project was to conduct public consultations of Łódź Local Revitalization Program in a way that would take into consideration opinions of various groups of citizens and stakeholders. Foundation developed full consultation methodology and the concept of educational activities for inhabitants. They also mapped stakeholders, i.e. representatives of cultural and social animation circles, the labour market, the real estate market and players active on the social support scene. All project documents and reports are available on the website naszarewitalizacja.pl – they can be used as a source of inspiration for other organisations preparing public consultations of urban policies. Consultations in Łódź eventually did not take place, because Łódź local government (project’s partner) haven’t prepared strategic document which was to be discussed.
