Description
The main objective of the project, directed to school teachers, educators and local community in Krasnystaw, is to enhance awareness on the former Jewish community of the town and to show them how important element of the local landscape it had been till the World War II. The project tries to reclaim the memory of the Jewish minority, to introduce multicultural education, and to foster emphatic and tolerant attitudes. Under the project - consisting of the training and educational part, and the activities in the town space, including innovative and multimedia walk through the old Jewish Krasnystaw, we focus on overcoming stereotypes concerning Jews, local community activation, counteracting exclusion and discrimination, and eliminating hatred and prejudices. Partnership is planning to achieve better quality off the acitvities due to the partner's experience in the field of hostoric education, jewish issues and combating discrimination.
Summary of project results
"Of all organisations active in Krasnystaw, only 3 focus on cultural activities - yet none engage in multicultural education (base:
www.ngo.lubelskie.pl), albeit Krasnystaw schoolteachers have been highlighting the need to supplement formal education with such component. Moreover, no Jewish-themed project has been organised locally, while until World War Two the Jewish community formed 20% of Krasnystaw's population. Local residents lack fundamental knowledge of the town's Jewish past, as confirmed in conversations engaged in by the Foundation's representatives. The chief project purpose was to expand Krasnystaw residents' knowledge of Jewish history by organising multi-cultural education based on overcoming stereotypes and promoting attitudes of tolerance. The project allowed the local population's awareness and knowledge of the Krasnystaw Jewish community to be considerably improved. Furthermore, knowledge of the local Jewish community was substantiated thanks to a publication and audio guide. Ten training sessions and 3 education tours were organised for 25 educators from Krasnystaw. A publication concerning the local Jewish community (500 copies plus an electronic version) and an audio guide were produced. A replica of the “Jewish Motives"" film festival was organised; a neTTheatre performance of “The Hideout"" directed by Paweł Passini was staged. The main group of beneficiaries included 25 educators - training sessions and education tour attendees. The paper version of the publication was provided to 200 recipients; the online version had a reach of 1,622. Two hundred persons downloaded the audio guide or listened to it online. Approximately 1,000 persons attended project events (film screenings, the theatre performance). The Trawniki Initiatives Association was the project partner, Association representatives were responsible for most of the activities and for project promotion."
