Description

The project aims to increase the efficiency of the flue gas desulphurisation process, which will have a significant impact on the protection of the environment and help the power plant to adapt to legally imposed emission standards. This will lead to improved air quality by reducing SO2 emissions from the lignite combustion installation in unit no. 5. It is expected that the project will lead to the reduction of SO2 emissions by 393.12 Mg/year and the reduction of dust emission by 77.80Mg/year. These goals will be achieved through the installation of a complete self-standing Flue-Gas Desulphurisation System using a wet lime-gypsum process, which will reduce the SO2 concentration in flue gases from unit no. 5. The project will benefit local residents as well as residents in border areas of Germany and the Czech Republic.

Summary of project results

The subject of the project was the construction of a complete, independent flue gas desulphurisation installation using wet lime and gypsum technology, including the accompanying infrastructure enabling to reduce SO2 concentration in flue gas from boiler no. 5 As a result of the desulphurisation process, wastewater be generated which, following the pre-treatment, is partially recirculated to the process, and the remaining part is used in the ash spraying installation. The post-reaction product generated in the desulphurisation process is gypsum. The basic objective of the installation modernisation was the improvement of air quality through reducing the level of SO2 emission from lignite combustion installation in power unit no. 5. The project has been completed. The wet flue gas desulphurisation system for unit no. 5 was put into operation.
