Description

The realization of this project will allow for the diagnosis of problems and the taking of necessary steps to eliminate threats to the population of marine mammals. Apart from the advantages for the areas under Nature 2000, the project will contribute to achieve the goals of EU. Stopping the decreasing and disappearing of the biological diversity of the ecosystem of the Baltic Sea, and mapping the threats and the places where marine mammals most often occur will allow for a better management of the maritime area and enable the maintenance and improvement the state of their habitat. The realization of the project will lead to the creation of maps that localize threats to marine mammals and localize their most often occurrence, which will enable efficient actions aimed at the protection of seals and porpoises. The project will be useful for all people that work with managing the area. because they will gain the appropriate knowledge to plan and implement the rules of protection of marine mammals.

Summary of project results

All activities planned within project have been implemented, the final report has been approved. The project implemented by the Slowinski National Park has improved management effectiveness and monitoring of this area by identifying potential habitats of the Baltic mammals (monitoring of 2 Natura 2000 sites). The realization of the project allowed for the diagnosis of problems and the taking of necessary steps to eliminate threats to the population of marine mammals (number of species covered by the project: 2). The realization of the project led to the creation of maps that localize threats to marine mammals which will enable efficient actions aimed at the protection of seals and porpoises. The equipment necessary for the implementation of the project was bought. The equipment enabling the detection of the presence of porpoises was deployed in the maritime area of Słowiński National Park as a part of the project. Furthermore, the increase of patrols has followed, both from the shore and from a boat which will enable the increase of the possibility of monitoring of sea waters within the area of Słowiński National Park area.
